The history of Papa Roach began in the January 1993, at the high school football match at Vacaville, where Jacoby Shaddix (lead vocalist) and Dave Buckner (drums) met and rather than the match they ended up talking their common interest Music. They were later accompanied Ben Luther (trombone) and Will James (bass guitar). This formed the Papa Roach’s first ever line up. After a very short duration Ben Luther was replaced by Jerry Horton as the lead guitarist.

It was in 1994 that Papa Roach recorded its first 7 track Extended Play titled Potatoes for Christmas. In 1995 they released their second EP, Caca Bonita. It was a 2 track promo recorded at Sound farm studios. After this Will James was replaced by Tobin Esperance (bass guitar) as he was heavily involved with a church summer camp and could not devote much time to practice and touring over summer.

History

In 1997 they produced the first full length album called Old Friends from Young Years, followed by the 5 track EP 5 Tracks Deep in 1998. It sold more than 1000 copies in its very first week and was a huge success. Their last EP in 1999 titled Let ‘Em Know was so popular that Dream work records contracted them. They then came out with their first major label album titled Infest in 1999 which sold over 30000 copies in the first week. It was followed by a number of tours for the band. It was followed by another huge hit in Lovehatetragedy during June 2002. Getting away with Murder which was their next album regardless of some backlash managed to out sold Lovehatetragedy.

The Band Members

David John Lewis Buckner: Also known as D-boy, he was born on May 29, 1976 in Los Angeles, California and is a drummer with the band. He is popularly known for his work for the band since 1993 to 2008. His passion for drums started at a very early age of 12 years when he began playing them and at 14 his family moved over to Vacaville where Papa Roach was founded alongside Coby.

Jacoby Dakota Shaddix: Also called Coby Dick and Johny Vodka, he was born on July 28, 1976 in Miriposa, California. He is the lead singer of the hard rock band. As a young child he went together with Dave (David) to vacaville high and played clarinet in the school orchestra. They later together founded Papa Roach in 1993.

Tobin Joseph Esperance: Also called Toby, he was born on 14 November 1979 in Vacaville, California. He is responsible for Bass in the band. His father presented him with a bass at the young age of 8 years. He didn’t learn playing it from any tutor, and with his efforts got into the Papa Roach band replacing Will James. He’s also the primary song writer for the band and wrote all the music for the band’s latest record.

Jerry Allan Horton Jr.: Also called Jar Jar and Mr Heater, he was born on 10 Mar 1975 in the town of Charleston, South Carolina. He was 14 when he started playing guitar and after taking a few lesson in Metallica joined Papa Roach replacing Ben Luther. He is responsible for guitar and background vocals with the band.
